Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens and begins to boil.
  3. Once boiling, continue to cook for an additional 2 minutes, stirring constantly.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Pour the pudding into individual serving dishes and let it cool at room temperature before refrigerating for at least 2 hours.
  6. Serve chilled, topped with whipped cream if desired.

Notes

  • For an extra rich flavor, use dark chocolate instead of cocoa powder.
