Description
A quick and delicious take on the classic sloppy joe, this version is served open-faced on golden, buttery Texas toast and topped with melty cheese.

- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup tomato sauce
- ½ cup ketchup
- 6 slices Texas toast (garlic or plain)
- 1 lb ground beef
- ½ cup onion, finely chopped
- ½ cup green bell pepper, finely chopped (optional)
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp mustard (yellow or Dijon)
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 cup shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
- 1 tbsp butter (if using plain Texas toast)
Instructions
- Preheat oven and prepare Texas toast. If plain, spread with butter and toast until golden. If garlic, bake per package instructions.
- In a skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add onion, green pepper, and garlic. Cook for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire, brown sugar, mustard, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
- Spoon meat mixture over each toast slice. Top with shredded cheese.
- Broil for 1–2 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve hot with your favorite sides.

- Use garlic buttered toast for extra flavor.
- Customize with jalapeños or swap in ground turkey.
- Store meat mixture separately for best leftovers.
