Description

Tender sliced apples slow cooked in a buttery cinnamon brown sugar sauce, inspired by the classic Cracker Barrel fried apples. Cozy, comforting, and incredibly easy to make.


Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 3 pounds apples (Golden Delicious, Fuji, or Gala), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple juice or cider
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, sliced
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional)


Instructions

  1. Place the sliced apples into the slow cooker.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, lemon juice, apple juice, and vanilla.
  3. Pour the mixture over the apples and gently toss to coat.
  4. Scatter butter slices evenly over the top.
  5. Cover and cook on LOW for 4–5 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours until apples are tender.
  6. If a thicker sauce is desired, stir in cornstarch during the last 30 minutes.
  7. Stir gently and serve warm.
