Description

This Sloppy Joe Biscuit Casserole brings together savory ground beef in classic Sloppy Joe sauce, fluffy biscuit dough topping and melted cheddar cheese for an easy, family-friendly comfort meal ready in about 35 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef – the hearty base of the dish
  • 1 small onion, chopped – adds flavour and texture
  • 1 small bell pepper, diced – brings colour and vegetable crunch
  • 1 cup tomato sauce – forms the saucy backbone
  • ½ cup ketchup – gives sweetness and tang
  • 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce – deep umami flavour
  • 1 tsp garlic powder – warm garlic note
  • 1 tsp chili powder – mild spice and smokiness
  • ½ tsp salt – balances flavour
  • ½ tsp black pepper – subtle heat
  • 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuit dough – the fluffy topping that bakes up golden
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese – melted, gooey finish that binds everything together

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 °F (190 °C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, chopped onion, and diced bell pepper until beef is browned and vegetables are tender. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, chili powder, salt and black pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Remove from heat and transfer the sloppy joe mixture to the prepared baking dish.
  5. Cut the biscuit dough into quarters and scatter them evenly over the top of the mixture.
  6. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese generously over the biscuits.
  7. Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Let cool for 5 minutes before serving—this helps it set and makes serving easier.

Notes

  • For a lighter version, use lean ground turkey instead of beef.
  • If biscuits are browning too fast before the centre is done, tent loosely with foil for the final few minutes.
  • You can assemble the meat mixture ahead (up to 24 hours), refrigerate, then add biscuits & cheese just before baking.
