Scale
- 1 lb white or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and trimmed
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 1/2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp ranch seasoning mix
- 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Mix sour cream, mayonnaise, ranch seasoning, lemon juice, salt, and pepper in a small bowl. Chill until ready to serve.
- Combine flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika in a shallow bowl.
- Whisk eggs and milk in a second bowl.
- Place panko breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
- Dredge each mushroom in the seasoned flour, then dip in egg mixture, and finally coat with panko.
- Heat 2 inches of vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry mushrooms in batches for 3–4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with the chilled ranch dip.
Notes
- Dry mushrooms thoroughly—avoid rinsing under water.
- Use a thermometer to maintain oil at 350°F for ideal crispiness.
- Fry in small batches to prevent sogginess.
- Panko breadcrumbs give superior crunch compared to regular.
- Dip tastes better if made ahead and chilled.
