Description

These Chocolate Chip Caramel Butter Bars are the ultimate comfort dessert. With gooey caramel, melty chocolate chips, and a soft buttery cookie base, this recipe is easy enough for beginner bakers and irresistible enough for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1½ cups chocolate chips
  • 1 (14 oz) bag soft caramels
  • ⅓ cup heavy cream
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla; beat well.
  4. Stir in flour, baking powder, and salt until combined into a soft dough.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips.
  6. Press half the dough into the prepared pan to form the base layer.
  7. In a saucepan over low heat, melt caramels with heavy cream, stirring until smooth. Add sea salt if desired.
  8. Pour the warm caramel over the base layer.
  9. Crumble the remaining dough evenly over the caramel.
  10. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  11. Cool completely to set the caramel. Refrigerate before cutting for cleaner slices.
  12. Slice into bars and enjoy!

Notes

  • Chill before slicing for clean, neat bars.
  • Add chopped pecans or walnuts for crunch.
  • Use dark chocolate chips for a richer taste.
  • Let the bars cool completely so the caramel sets properly.
